what's the fastest car from 0-60 MPH at 1 mile above sea level? That's pretty straightforward question and one that we are prepared to answer. In the first half of 2012 we've tested a lot of fast cars from 0-60 MPH at altitude. As you may know less air also means less power so our 0-60 MPH times are different from those at sea level. Also turbocharges and supercharges help to make up for the power loss. So what Top 5 Fastest 0-60 MPH Cars

2013 Mercedes-Benz GL350 vs Lexus GX460 Off-Road Mountain Mashup Review

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL350 Bluetec and the 2013 Lexus GX460 are both luxurious 7 seater family haulers that can certainly go off-road. However that where the similarities end. Under the hood of the Mercedes is a V-6 turbocharged diesel engine while under the hood of the Lexus is a more traditional gasoline powered V-8. Of course we wanted to know not just how well the brand new 2013 Mercedes GL compares to the Lexus when it comes to ride and handling but perhaps more importantly how the Mercedes compares of-road when the going very muddy. You see the Lexus is based on one of Toyota's most off road worthy vehicles...the Land Cruiser. So how did the big Merc do? Check out this off-road Mountain Mash-up Review to find out.

Ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a quiet beach in Wales echoes with the sound of the new BMW M5's twin turbo engines as precision driver Wolfgang Weber enjoys drifting around Pendine Sands to help us support the BMW London 2012 Performance Team athletes.

Audi TT Dragging Its Feet

After a very successful first weekend off, involving cliff jumping and loads of sunshine – we really do feel like resting on our laurels. Now we know that’s not typical for an Audi, and especially one as amazing as this, but as low to the ground as this beauty is, that’s how we are feeling about this Monday. We may have found the only pitfall in having weekends off and we now can fully understand the dreaded day of the week we have managed to circumnavigate for all these years and could certainly use some pointers on how to start the day off right, or at least have the weekend last a little longer! We hope you all had a great weekend and if you snapped any great pics of your Audi’s in the process, pass them along – we’d love to share them!

Good Morning everyone and welcome to Monday; to some, perhaps the most dreaded day of the week! We trust you all have had a great weekend full of interesting things to do; car shows to be taken in, cliffs to be jumped off, families to hang out with – and if you didn’t, well we have good news because next weekend is a perfect opportunity to try again!
Now getting back to what’s important on this lovely sunshiny day, is this fantastic picture of an impressive Audi RS4 looking like it’s getting ready to take on a fighter jet. Now we know Audi’s are all guts and glory – but we may have to deem this match up a bit one-sided. However, as Mondays go – if you feel like facing down a fighter jet is an accurate way to describe your thrill for the start of another week – then we know exactly what you’re taking about. No matter what, make it a good one!

Frankly, I love the Mercedes Benz

Ahead of its time.

Style is correctly omitting what is irrelevant"
ANSELM FEUERBACH

The aura exuded by the car is based on a long tradition. Although the actual E-Class name only officially came into being in 1993, the origins of this model series stretch back some 60 years. And the series has always stood out from the competition primarily as a result of its technological excellence. It has been the first to introduce many groundbreaking innovations as standard – such as the crash-stable floor assembly, 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the diesel engine with four-valve technology, or the sidebag and belt force limiter.
The E-Class also paved the way for the success enjoyed by the modern-day hatchback: the first high-quality appointed estate model appeared in 1978, transforming this vehicle from a practical delivery van into a much sought-after lifestyle vehicle.

2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

SENIOR MOTORSPORTS EDITOR MAC MORRISON: Ah, the good ol' Jetta. Finally, the GLI gives back some of what was lost--or what we never got--in recent "performance" versions, with a limited-slip differential and a multilink independent rear suspension rather than the twist-beam axle.
I dare say that this is the most enjoyable Jetta since Volkswagen regrettably killed the always popular VR6 variant last seen with the Jetta IV. Back then, I owned a base 2.0-liter Jetta IV, and I don't care what the haters might think, I loved that car. Not because it was fast or even quick, or because it handled especially great (it didn't). But mind you, it was still fun to drive, and I always loved how a poor, freshly minted college graduate could drive a $17,000 car that resembled an Audi A4 a whole hell of a lot, both outside and inside.
With the five-speed manual it was entertaining to throw around, especially after I slapped a giant rear antiroll bar on and dialed it to the stiffest setting to generate some lift-off oversteer under high suspension load, as well as a front strut tower brace and some sticky Pirelli tires. I would have done more, but at that point, being a poor recent college graduate and all, I ran out of money. But for a few hundred bucks, I turned that Jetta 2.0 into something a lot of people had a lot of fun with.

BMW M5 comes alive with all-wheel drive

BMW M5
the sedan. It will be the first time the car houses a turbocharged powerplant, the first time a dual-clutch gearbox is used and, most importantly, the first time the M5 gets all-wheel drive.

That's the word from BMW brass in Shanghai, where Albert Biermann, head of BMW M's research and development, confirmed the powertrain, Autocar reports. The company is currently chasing the sales of all-wheel-drive Audis and Mercedes-Benz sedans in the snowy northern United States.

The styling changes are slight for the new M. The concept showed a large intercooler duct in the center, a deeper front bumper and chrome side air vents. A small rear spoiler adorns the trunk.

The new heart of the M5 will pump out more power, with greater efficiency than the previous model's V10. The total grunt will come in at 552 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Power should come smoother with the Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, as opposed to the last generation's clunky sequential manual unit.

The M5 will roll on a set of 20-inch wheels, with a pair of 265/35ZR20 tires in front and 295-30ZR20s in the rear.

One step closer to heaven

One step closer to heaven.

Pure sportiness meets roadster driving pleasure.

The technological highlights of the SLS AMG Roadster read like an A-B-C of modern sports car engineering: the combination of an aluminium spaceframe body, an AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid engine with dry sump lubrication developing 420 kW (571 hp) and 650 Nm of torque, a seven-speed dual clutch transmission in a transaxle arrangement and a sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones, is guaranteed to make the hearts of sports car enthusiasts beat faster, while ensuring outstanding driving dynamics and roadster driving pleasure. Available as an
optional extra is the new AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping.

Fuel consumption (combined): 13.2 l/100 km;
CO2 emissions (combined): 308 g/km*

Sport is its program

A glutton for cornering: the C-Class Coupé Sport.
From the very first corner on, the new C-Class Coupé Sport showed it's got what it takes and Susie Wolff and the Longboard Girl Crew were all equally impressed. The specially tuned AMG sports suspension and the perceptibly more direct steering give the car the hottest roadholding round corners in its class. Additional downforce and improved vehicle balance is provided by the AMG spoiler lip on the boot lid. Its sporty presence is underlined by the rich sound of the sporty exhaust system.
Sport is not just an additional tag for the C-Class Coupé. Sport is its program. Press a button and the sport mode – known as the S-mode – goes into spectacular action, the engine and transmission responding much more directly.
The altered gear shifting makes the driving experience much more intensive. And not only that, the C-Class Coupé Sport also has shortened shifting times with a double-declutching function – and when braking down for the next corner, the gears actively change down.

The power of serenity

Ready to go: The new A-Class.

After the design of the new A-Class had aroused great enthusiasm while still stationary, the premium compact car won over all the spectators with its dynamic qualities on the road. The picturesque region round the capital city of Ljubljana provided a very suitable setting for getting to know the new A-Class.

BMW 3 Series

AC Schnitzer has released its ACS3 program for the new BMW 3 Series Touring model.
Visually, the popular Estate wears a subtle aero package consisting of a spoiler and chrome grille insert for the front bumper, a roof spoiler and a rear skirt. A sport spring kit lowers the car by 20 mm, while a range of alloys in sizes from 18 to 20-inches complete the aesthetics, including the Type IV rims in silver, two-tone Type IV BiColor and Type VIII BiColor in black or silver,
On the inside, AC Schnitzer can supply owners with AC a sports steering wheel, velour floor mats, ‘Black Line’ aluminium iDrive cover, an aluminium pedal set and interesting gearknob complete with digital gear readout.
Performance upgrade options for the diesel-engined cars see output from the 318d rise from 107 kW (143 hp) to 128 kW (171 hp) and the 320d from 137 kW (184 hp) to 163 kW (218 hp), while petrolheads are catered for with the 328i model jumping from 183 kW (245 hp) to 219 kW (294 hp) and the 335i going from 228 kW (306 hp) to 268 kW (360 hp).

Audi coupe

Audi is débuting this striking crosslane coupé model at the Paris motor Show, this week.
The plug-in hybrid concept is based around a Multimaterial Space Frame layout utilizing aluminum, carbon fibre-reinforced polymer and glass fibre-reinforced polymer, and measures 4.21 metres in length, 1.88 metres in width and stands 1.51 metres tall, meaning it’s virtually the same size as Audi’s Q3 SUV, but thanks to its lightweight construction weighs around 50 kg less, at 1,390 kg – including the lithium-ion battery.
Powering the crosslane coupe is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TFSI developing 95 kW (130 hp) and 200 Nm of torque, and a pair of electric motors. The first motor, a 50 kW (68 hp) and 210 Nm unit, acts as a starter and alternator, while the second motor, producing 85 kW (116 hp) and 250 Nm, is used for traction purposes. A claw clutch enables this motor to connect directly to the transmission, meaning speeds up to 55 km/h (34 mph) can use electric power drawing energy primarily from the 17.4 kWh battery. Between 55 km/h and 130 km/h (81 mph) the engine and alternator become part of the hybrid drivetrain, which chooses its source depending on whether the ‘cruise’ or ‘race’ mode is chosen. The TFSI engine becomes the main source of drive above 130 km/h, with the smaller motor providing support if required. 0-100 km/h occurs in 8.6 seconds (electric mode: 9.8s), while top speed is 182 km/h (113 mph). Impressively, fuel consumption is a mere 1.1 litres every 100 kilometres (214 US mpg) while the CO2 figure is just 26 g/km.
Visually, the face wears trapezoidal headlights using Audi Matrix LED technology, a large single frame grille and air intakes in the front fascia. The sides are dominated by those blistered wheel arches and large c-pillar (which helps it to look like the legendary Audi quattro S1 – in our opinion), while the clean-looking rear features a small roof spoiler, aluminium diffuser and LED tail lights. The CFRP roof section can be removed and placed over the trunk, which is attached to the back of the rear seats and forms a separate pan within the structure of the body.
The interior features electrically adjustable sport seats with CFRP shell, semi-aniline leather and velvet leather upholstery and features a mixture of machine-polished and anodized aluminium trim elements and switchgear. As well as the touchpad on the centre console, the driver can also carry out most functions via the surfaces on spokes of the steering wheel.

BMW M550d xDrive

The BMW M550d xDrive benefits from the unique expertise of BMW M engineers, with a special, fine-tuned powertrain, suspension and steering system.

The end result is an automobile that offers an exhilarating combination of sheer dynamism, comfort and everyday usability. Striking details underline the sporty character and set the vehicle apart, both inside and out, from other BMW 5 Series Touring models − M genes included.

It’s hard to believe that its been a whole decade since Volkswagen’s Touareg made its world debut in Paris, but it has. So obviously the company is marking this particular milestone with the introduction of the Touareg Edition X.
Standard equipment consists of silver anodised roof rails, a large panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED rear light clusters with darkened lenses. The Chrome & Style designer package, Touareg X badges, 19-inch ‘Moab’ alloy wheels and tinted side and rear windows also feature on this model, while Moonlight Blue Pearl Effect exterior paintwork can be added as an option.
Moving inside, the cabin is treated to embossed, illuminated sill plates, Amber Brown Nappa leather trim and ebony inlays on the door and instrument panels. There’s also colour-coordinated stitching on the steering wheel, gear lever gaiter and floor mats.
The Touareg Edition X is available to order from today with a choice of five engine/transmission configurations, with prices starting at €61,025 for the 150 kW (201 hp) V6 TDI BlueMotion with 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Because you elite Special ... Deserve better

Mercedes-Benz has announced details of a special ’45th Anniversary’ model of its SLS AMG GT3 car, aimed at a handful of collectors.
Based on the regular customer sport racing car that has tasted success in the FIA GT3 European Championship, FIA GT1 World Championship and ADAC GT Masters, the celebratory version is finished in the same designo magno graphite matt paintwork as the SL 65 AMG Anniversary Edition, and wears “45 Years of Driving Performance” logos on the doors, along with a set of designo magno graphite AMG lightweight alloy wheels. Moving inside, there’s a body-coloured roll-cage, an additional carbon fibre seat and ’1 of 5′ badging on the matte carbon fibre centre console and seats.
One more detail of interest is the fact that none other than Bernd Schneider, the Mercedes-AMG ambassador and former DTM champion and FIA GT world champion, will assist in the fitment of that luscious AMG 6.2-litre V8 powerplant and even sign the engine’s badge along with the fitter.
Just five vehicles will be built, at a price of €446,250, with customers being invited to Mercedes-AMG’s Affalterbach plant for the handover and a tour of the factory.
