new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Move over Ram and F150; this is the new artillery that GM is bringing to the pickup market. The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is soon to make its official appearance and CarScoop is giving you an early sneak-peak illustration, based on the many prototype models caught on camera. The current Silverado has been battling it out strongly since 2007, only finishing as bridesmaid to Ford's F-150 on the sales charts, which is one thing for certain that GM would love to change.
The outgoing model has arguably been wearing the bridesmaid's tag when it comes to styling too; sure, it's reasonably appealing with its modern and rugged clothes, but doesn't push any design envelopes. Being a fresh slate for the 2014 model year, Chevrolet is changing this and gunning Ford, Dodge and Toyota head on in the pickup design stakes.
The new all-duty hauler expands on recent GM design themes with it's blunt square-ish and rounded sheet metal pressings. The front is more brash thanks to it's detailed chrome grill (with honeycomb inserts) and headlight surrounds, which incorporate more sophisticated projector headlights and turn signals.
The lower bumper is an all-chrome affair with a shield outline dominating the lower intake's bottom edge, and the fog lights have been better positioned to compliment the lower opening.
As one glances upwards to the hood, they will notice the new twin power dome stampings that convey a sense of aggressiveness to the design. Under the hood, it is expected that a new fuel efficient small block V8 and 3.6-liter V6 power-plants will debut, coupled with more advanced 6-speed transmissions (8-speed automatic is due later down the track).
Behind the business end, the cabin appears fairly conventional; being upright with a moderately raked windshield. Those thick clamshell door frames of the current truck have been slimmed down and as your eye glances to the rear door, a slight up-kick finishes off the side windows.
Below the glasshouse, the body carries on the smooth and chunky appearance of the current look; wheel-arch flares are heavily squared off and there is a lower character line running the length of the truck.
Inside, the more spacious cabin has the same theme continuing from the outside - the dash, door panels and touch-screen center stack look chunky and unique. There is an expected vast array of advanced technologies like radar based cruise control, lane-keep assist, and potentially automated city braking.
Overall, I would say the new design is a progressive and bolder step forward for Chevrolet - it isn't as radical as some would have hoped for, but then GM can't afford to alienate its customer base.
We will have to wait until the next GMC Sierra is revealed to see if the envelope is pushed further. Until then what do you, as the reader, think? Does the latest Silverado have what it takes to de-throne the mighty F-150 off those sales charts?

new 2014 BMW M4 Coupe Rendered: What do You Think?

BMW’s decision to rename the 3-Series Coupe the 4-Series has certainly resulted in a lot of debate. Munich’s reasoning is that the Coupe is different enough to its saloon sibling, upon which it is based, to deserve a new designation.
Moreover, it adheres to the carmaker’s decision to name coupes, convertibles and sportier-looking sedans (think 6 Series Gran Coupe) with even numbers, something that will also be applied to the forthcoming 1-Series Coupe that will be renamed the 2-Series.
Does the name change really matter? You betcha; that’s because it will also affect the M-Division-fettled range topper of the coupe and possibly convertible range, which will no longer be named the M3 (though, the name will continue with the sedan) but the M4.
That’s a break with tradition greater than the switch to turbocharging. After all, we’ve beginning to get accustomed to turbocharged M-cars, such as the M5, and bringing back an in-line six-cylinder harks back to the E36 and E46 models. The real reason, of course, is that downsizing and turbocharging help the new car, which bears the F82 code-name, to conform to more strict emission regulations while offering much the same horsepower, better torque (thanks to the blowers) and be more eco-friendly.
The cooking 4-Series has been officially unveiled as a thinly-disguised concept ahead of its world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show next month and is quite a looker. Even though the M4 has already been caught on camera and on film doing the rounds at the ‘Ring, it wore camouflage and we’ll have to wait for next fall’s Frankfurt Motor Show, for the concept and mid-to-late 2014 for sales to begin.
In the meantime, here’s a couple of renderings courtesy of JAdesigns75 for the F30Post forums that show us how the upcoming M4 could look like. The car certainly looks the part, complete with hood bulge, double-bubble roof, aggressive front air intakes to feed the (two, or is it three?) turbochargers and of course wheel arch-filling alloys and quad tail pipes.
So, what do you think? Feel free to voice your opinion in the comments section right after the break.

Peugeot 208 Rallye Edition Hits the Streets

It's been three months to the day (September 24, 2012) since Philippe Beaugé, head of the Peugeot dealership Clara Automobile in the French city of Le Mans, first shared with us pictures and details of a newly created edition of the 208 supermini named after and inspired by the famed Rallye models.
As a refreshed, the dealer-made Rallye is based on the 208 156 THP Feline model powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine churning out 154hp (156PS) while tipping the scales at a relatively low 1,090kg (2,403 lbs).
Among other changes, the Rallye package involves the removal of the soundproofing, the rear headrests and center armrests, while the prototype was finished in white, as were the alloy wheels, with the final touch coming from the tri-color racing stripes and decals on the car's profile and hood.
In the months that passed, Beaugé and his team received a positive response to the 208 Rallye, so they decided to offer the package as a separate model.
"Our small idea has been a big hit on internet blogs and in the streets. Many people told us our creation was a great idea and –much more important- a great car," Beaugé told CarScoop.
Beaugé said the first two examples have been finished and are already been spoken for with more to come.
"We’ve received many mails and phone calls from France and even from Spain, and we will continue to propose our “Rallye Kit” on the THP 155 208," he said. "Next month, we will create a black 208 Rallye…"
As for Peugeot itself, Beaugé tells us what the French carmaker thought about Clara Automobile's initiative: "You will probably want to know what Peugeot thinks about this unofficial 208 RALLYE. They told us the car was fabulous and said “why not?” about a sporty version placed right under the GTi."
If you scroll down, you will find a set of pictures of the first two 208 Rallye Editions before they left the showroom together with a video of the car riding alongside its predecessors, the 205 and 106 Rallye.
Thanks to Philippe Beaugé from Clara Automobiles Le Mans

New 1 Comments Chevrolet to Offer 2014 Camaro with Corvette Z06's LS7 7.0-liter, 505HP V8

A General Motors document published in the Camaro5 forums may shed some light on a new engine option being prepared for the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro.
Said document shows the 7.0-liter LS7 V8 engine added to the rest of the Camaro's available powerplants for the 2014 model year. The LS7 is used in the current Corvette Z06, in which it has an output of 505HP and 470 lb-ft (636.5 Nm) of maximum torque.
That’s some way short of the Ferrari 458-beating 580-horses of the supercharged V8 shoehorned under the bulging bonnet of the Camaro ZL1 version. On the other hand, it’s considerably more powerful than the 426HP SS model
This is pure speculation on our part, but it’s possible that Chevrolet will introduce an LS7-powered Camaro to bridge the power gap between the SS and the ZL1, offering a three-tier performance range, just like it does in the Corvette.
We’ll soon find out if that’s the case or if the General has something else hiding under its sleeves in the next three weeks: remember, the Detroit Motor Show opens on January 14…

Audi Tells Us it Has No Plans to Offer the New RS6 Avant in the U.S

If you can afford it, the new Audi RS6 Avant is one of those cars that allows you to have a mid-life crisis without actually affecting the others around you, and by that, we mean you can get supercar-levels of performance with all the comfort amenities and more importantly, the space and practicality of a large family car.
Sadly, if you live in the States, this is one super wagon that you won't be able to park under your garage during this phase of your life.
In an email we received today from John Schilling, product communications manager for Audi North America, we were told that, the brand has "No plans on bringing the RS6 Avant here to the U.S.".
And for those of you wondering, yes, we did ask him if Audi had plans for a sedan version of the 190mph, 552hp RS6, but unfortunately, we did not receive an answer…
Not to rub salt on the wound, but thanks to a tip from CarScoop reader Bruno, we can share with you a new gallery of wallpaper pictures of the RS6 Avant sourced from Audi's German website.
If you would like to voice your opinion on whether Audi should bring the RS6 Avant to the States, place your vote in the poll after the break.

Honda Confirms UK Pricing for Updated and Slightly More Powerful 2013 CR-Z

The revised Honda CR-Z, which was seen in Europe for the first time at the Paris auto show in September, will arrive in UK dealerships in January with on-the-road prices starting from £20,550 for the Sport variant and £23,050 for the range-topping GT.While the 2013 model does receive a light exterior makeover with a new front bumper design, a different grille and rear diffuser, along with subtle updates to the interior including changes to the colour scheme and improvements to the cabin storage, the most important upgrades are to be found under the hood.
Honda's engineers made changes to the car's 1.5 litre petrol engine ECU unit and variable valve timing system, boosting output by 7hp from 112hp (114PS) to 119hp (121PS).
At the same time, the IMA hybrid system features a new Lithium Ion battery that replaces the previous Nickel-metal hybrid version, and an increase in power from 14hp to 20hp.
These upgrades result in an overall combined output of 135hp (137PS) at 6,600 rpm (+13hp) and 190Nm of torque (+16Nm), with the CR-Z's 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint time dropping from 10.0 seconds to 9.1 seconds on the Sport model and from 10.1 seconds to 9.5 seconds on the GT.
There's also a new Sport Plus (S+) boost system activated by a button that offers an electric boost for up to 10 seconds.
The 2013 CR-Z retains the same fuel economy numbers as its predecessor at 56.5mpg UK on the combined cycle and 116 g/km (Sport) and 54.3 mpg UK and 122 g/km (GT).

Chevrolet to Rush in a Facelift for New Malibu Next Year to Address Criticism and Lackluster Sales

Normally, automakers present a mid-cycle update approximately three to four years after the launch of a new model. If a refresh comes earlier, this means that a car manufacturer is disappointed by the way it has been received by consumers, the media or both.Such was the case with the 2012 Honda Civic that received a makeover only 18 months after its conception, with the 2013 model making its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week.
Honda isn’t the only company to go down this road as General Motors is also planning to revamp one of its newest entries in the market, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.
Speaking to Automotive News, GM CEO Dan Akerson revealed that the company isn't happy with the mid-size sedan's soft early sales and the mediocre reviews it received by magazines, so it has decided to hurry in a facelift for late next year, only about 18 months after its market launch.
"We are going to do a midcycle enhancement, not dramatic, by this time next year," Akerson told the publication, adding that the revisions will include a new fascia.
"I think it's a good car. It'll do OK," Akerson said. "It is a tough segment and it's one we need to be successful in. We'll see how it plays out."
While the Malibu's deliveries have actually increased 4 percent this year through October to 189,094, according to Autonews, for the most part of 2012, these sales include heavily discounted examples of the outgoing 2012 Malibu. When dealers started pushing out more 2013MYs in September and October, the car's sales dipped around 3 percent.
